There you go, half my work is done for me on a routine basis and that means less things I have to worry about. If I haven’t figured out that I might need that file before then, I’m probably never going to need it. So this means these video files will be around for probably six weeks before they are deleted. I have it set to delete anything 2 weeks old. I also have Hazel looking at my Trash folder and emptying files out of that automatically. If both of those conditions are met, Hazel automatically sends that file to the trash. The second rule is that the file has to be coded red. In this case I want to chuck files that over 4 weeks old. The first rule looks at how old the file is. Then I set up Hazel with a couple of rules. So what I do is I color code video files that I know I will eventually delete Red.

And there has been a time in the past where I missed recording something special because the drive filled up and I didn’t notice. The last thing I want is to be recording on a Sunday morning and find out that the drive is full because I forgot to clean out the drive.
